Want to help welcome refugees but do not have the time for a long-term commitment? Consider joining our Rapid Response Team for opportunities to respond to one-time, short-term opportunities to aid refugees in the Tucson community.
Rapid Response Team members will receive emails informing them of weekly, one-time volunteer opportunities that may range anywhere from one hour to a full day. Team members simply respond to the posted needs that work with their schedule. Attending a training session is encouraged, but not required for one-time opportunities (unless you will be transporting refugees).
One-time volunteer opportunities may include:
- Setting up or decorating an apartment
- Grocery shopping for a new refugee family
- Providing transportation to a doctor’s appointment
- Welcoming a newly arriving refugee family at the airport
The needs at this time are overwhelming. Every hour of volunteer time can make a tremendous impact on the quality of the reception and care that a new refugee family receives. Let’s show new refugee families not only that they are welcome, but that we seek to love and bless them as they start their lives over in a new country.
